Player: JW here
you say you reinstalled again. Okay.
try this: > go to > system\ut2004.ini > find these lines:
>CheckForOverflow and AvoidHitches **SET THEM BOTH TO TRUE.**
It has to do with rendering in 3d mode and video handling. epic use standard defaults across the board.
But allot of what happens in unreal after we set it up the way we like we need to keep all .ini files backed up after we have it tweaked. it might help.
Good luck Bud. Regards; "JW"

hey here is a second thought player:
I don't think that this is a problem of your video media perse'
So the message in the logfile that should be there instead of that cryptic "ReadFile beyond EOF 0+4/0" is about loading the OpenGL driver. Running UT without OpenGL acceleration results in different, more useful output. So there's something else going on here.
> Try to eliminate the OpenGL-driver as an error cause by using software rendering. This will run awfully slow, but it may give you a direction for searching for the error. To use the software renderer you need the latest patch 3369 installed. > Then change in your UT2004.ini
[Engine.Engine] ;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice ;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice
To this:
[Engine.Engine] ;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice ;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice ;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice
After that, pray and run UT.
I'll keep running through some trials here and see what I can come up with.
